“What you can be is more important than what you have been.”

As I was reflecting on the past year and the new adventure that I am stepping into, this quote hit home. It sat written on a scrap paper in my room, just waiting to inspire at the right moment. And this was the moment, a simple truth that I needed to hear as I embarked on this new journey.

In a culture that is always inviting me to compare myself to others, I need to be reminded that there is always hope for what I can become in the future. Who I am today is not who I will be tomorrow. What I have been in the past and the experiences I have had do not dictate who I can become. As I allowed this idea to wash over me, I was reminded of a verse in Isaiah that aligns with this truth. Isaiah 43:18-19 says: “Do not call to mind the former things or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new…” God invites us to step into the future unhindered by the past, a future where He promises to do something new.

So as I embark on this new journey, I do so with hope, resting in the promise that there is still so much more in store for me. As a daughter, sister, friend, follower of Jesus, athlete, and teammate, what I can be waits to be discovered!
